GKS Inspection Services Opens Third Laser Scanning and CAD Modeling Service Bureau in China. New Guilin Area Office to Complement Existing Shanghai and Guangdong Offices.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN-
GKS Inspection Services, a global provider of dimensional inspection, 3D
laser scanning, and terrestrial scanning services since 1981, announced
that it has recently opened a laser scanning and CAD modeling office in
the Guilin province of China. “GKS now has locations in three key
Chinese markets – Guilin, Shanghai and Guangdong. Having a strong
Chinese presence is an important part of our strategy for becoming the
global leader in the 3D laser scanning services industry,” said Armando
Alonso, Vice President of GKS. “GKS China increases our worldwide
reverse engineering and CAD modeling capabilities while also giving us
entry into the rapidly growing Chinese marketplace.”
GKS Guilin China
Services
GKS Inspection
Services’ Guilin China team of highly skilled engineers provides reverse
engineering, inspection, and prototyping services along with traditional
measurement and inspection technologies and processes. With their 3D
laser scanning and CAD modeling expertise, the engineers create surface
models from the 3D scan data (or “point clouds”), in a process known as
reverse engineering. GKS China Guilin also uses inspection software to
create a color error deviation map that clearly delineates variations
between the as-built part and the design intent. Engineers at GKS China
have extensive experience with Imageware and Geomagic software, as well
as CATIA, UG, I-Deas, and Solidworks.
GKS China Guilin has
a CMM lab, a temperature-controlled bridge-style CMM and also a PCMM
which can be used on-site in factory locations. The Laser Design
systems are equipped with high-accuracy laser probes and the latest
Surveyor Scan Control software. Once the 3D scan data is collected, GKS
China Guilin uses inspection software to create a color error deviation
map.
Laser scanning systems project laser light onto surfaces while cameras
continuously triangulate the changing distance and profile of the laser
as it sweeps along, enabling the object to be accurately replicated.
Laser scanners can quickly measure large parts while generating far
greater numbers of data points than touch probes without the need for
templates or fixtures. Laser scanning replicates the complete geometry
of a complex part to a high level of accuracy, often to within 1
thousandth of an inch.
3D Laser Scanning
Need is Growing
Many companies would
like to take advantage of the improved accuracy and speed provided by
laser scanning but need to scan only a relatively small number of parts.
Such companies have difficulty justifying the cost of acquiring a laser
scanner and training operators in its use. GKS Inspection Services,
headquartered in Detroit with offices in Minneapolis, India, Korea,
Taiwan, the Netherlands, Singapore, and now China, offers outsourced
laser scanning services on a project basis. A company simply sends a
part to GKS and they create a very accurate CAD model or inspection
report in a short period of time at a reasonable cost. Alternately, GKS
can dispatch trained metrologists to the customer’s site using portable
measuring devices.
GKS Inspection
Services, a division of Laser Design Inc., has been a leading provider
of dimensional inspection, 3D laser scanning and terrestrial scanning
services for over 25 years. The
company’s Plymouth, MI lab (Detroit metro area) is accredited by the
A2LA for Mechanical Testing and Calibration and
features numerous CMMs, vision systems, 3D laser scanners,
surface analyzers and other inspection equipment. GKS also has U.S.
offices in Minneapolis and Seattle and international locations in India,
Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore,
and the Netherlands. The company’s metrologists and engineers are
experienced in the automotive, defense, electronics and many other
manufacturing industries.
